2020

While students were away on spring break, the campus was part of a worldwide pandemic originally named COVID-19. The students were not allowed to return to campus and the rest of the semester was delivered on-line.  2020 Spring Graduation and face to face summer classes were also cancelled.  The summer was spent rearranging classrooms to facilitate a 6’ social distance between each student and classrooms were given webcams and special sound systems to make it possible for face-to-face and on-line learning to happen simultaneously.

Throughout July and August, MSU-Northern’s Office of Teaching and Learning Excellence organized a series of course design workshops to help MSUN instructors prepare for fall teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On August 26, 2020, MSU-Northern cut the ribbon on the new football field. Because of Covid-19, the fall 2020 football season is postponed until the Spring of 2021.

On Wednesday, Sept 16, the Board of Regents approves MSU-Northern’s request to name its new football field the Tilleman Field in memory of local NFL football legend Mike Tilleman.

Fall student orientation check-in process was in the gym reminiscent of the days before computers and wireless technologies. Many departments including admissions, advising, financial aid, registrar, business services, accessibility, and SSS participated.

MSU-Northern hosts its first official cross country meet at the Prairie Farms Golf Course with 7 teams from around the state. Our team takes fourth place.

MSU-Northern receives $250K from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund to be distributed to 19 projects supporting workforce development and remote education delivery for Montanans through an accelerated apprenticeship education initiative in plumbing and electrical programs that will be done in partnership with Gallatin College, Great Falls College MSU and the Billings MSU Career Center.

Montana Post-Secondary Educational Opportunities Council College Fair was conducted virtually. The event went from three weeks to one week.

The campus streets received a facelift from first street to Tiber Drive and continuing to 1st Avenue.

MSU-Northern Lights Cross Country team places third at the Frontier Conference Cross-Country Championships.

Lorren Schlotfeldt Receives the 2020 Montana Registered Apprenticeship Service Award from The Montana Department of Labor & Industry.

MSUN Little River Institute Receives a five-year 1.5M Grant Award from the Department of Education’s Native American Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI) program.

Student Support Services receives a five-year grant renewal.

2021

MSU-Northern receives the donation of a trainer engine worth more than $100,000, courtesy of Interstate Power Systems.

David Yarlott, President of Little Big Horn Community College, signs a memorandum of understanding on Jan. 21, 2021, with MSU-Northern to collaborate on developing a certificate program in building maintenance.

Retired MSU-Northern Professor Tom Welch receives Emeritus status.

KNMC celebrates their 20 year anniversary of being a campus radio station.
