Structural flaws in East Hall make the building unsafe and use of all but two rooms is discontinued.

Two units to provide apartments for married students are under construction at the top of the hill on the east side of campus.

The enlarged version of the college symbol that was welded by Con Elnes of the Vo Tech division in 1958 is mounted on the curved brick wall planter at the one of the campus North entrances.

 

1961

The new Student Union Building is ready for use.

A windstorm rips the roof off the connecting wing between the pool and the gym completely flattening one floor.

Three more units are added to the married student housing bringing the total of two-bedroom apartments on campus to 50.

1962

After 11 years leading NMC, Dr. L.O. Brockmann steps down at the end of December.

1963

Dr. J.R Crowley is appointed acting President in January and then President in April.

1965

In May the Physical Plant building burns to the ground.

The Pin and Cue area is added to the Student Union Building basement.

1966

Construction begins on a new Physical Plant structure on the southwest corner of the campus to replace the one that burned down in 1955.

Construction also begins on the Math-Science Building.

Bids are accepted for the Electronics Technology Building.

The N on the hill south of campus was designed by architect Tobias Stapleton, funded by the students, and was built by the campus. Harold Babcock, an Assistant Professor and Superintendent of the Physical Plant and Dale Anderson, an instructor in drafting, supervised the construction of the "N".

Math-Science Building (Hagener Science Center) opens

The Electronics Technology building is opened for classes

The area between Cowan Hall and the Armory Gym is paved for a parking lot at a cost of $40,000 paid through parking fees.

The Morgan Hall Annex (Men's Co-op) is demolished leaving only the cement walls of the tennis courts just south of Morgan Hall. Those courts were transformed into a parking lot in 2018.
