About This Data

All disaggregated data visualizations are provided through the National Student Clearinghouse Postsecondary Data Partnership (PDP). All student success indicators, defined below, are for full-time students, both first-time and transfers. Benchmark institutions are those from across the country that are both baccalaureate-granting and in the same Carnegie Classification as MSU-Northern. Complete lists of benchmark institutions, by success indicator, are also provided below.

  1. Credit Accumulation: The share of students that met or exceeded the credit-hour threshold (15/30) during their first year. This measure is used to show early momentum for Associates-seeking students as well as for Bachelors-seeking students. The data is disaggregated by race/ethnicity, gender, and PELL status.
  2. Credit Completion Ratio: As another early momentum measure, the credit completion ratio is the ratio of credits earned to credits attempted during a student’s first year; averaged over the previous six cohort years. This measure is provided for Associates-seeking as well as Bachelors-seeking students and is disaggregated by race/ethnicity, gender, and PELL status.
  3. Retention and Persistence: This measure provides information on the proportion of students that either continued to enroll at the original institution for a second year of study (retention) or enroll at a different institution for a second year of study (persistence). This data, also separated by degree-seeking level, has been disaggregated by race/ethnicity, gender, and PELL status.
  4. Completion: This measure provides the proportion of students earning the intended degree (Associates or Bachelors in this case) within 200 percent of normative time. For Associates-seeking students, this is the proportion of students completing their degree within four years and for Bachelors-seeking students, this is the proportion of students completing their degree within eight years. Again, all data is benchmarked against like institutions and disaggregated by race/ethnicity, gender, and PELL status.
