Summer Course Design Workshops
Starting in July 2020, MSU-Northern’s Office of Teaching and Learning Excellence (OTLE) will be offering opportunities for faculty to participate in a week-long course design workshop to help address the challenge of preparing fall courses during the Covid-19 pandemic. We’re excited to provide you with extra time, space, and support to create courses that accommodate social distancing needs and are as remote-ready as possible. Most importantly, you’ll get a chance to workshop your courses with faculty peers and benefit from their insights.
During morning sessions, we will demonstrate effective use of key Brightspace tools and strategies (and a few non-Brightspace tools and strategies), and you will have the opportunity to see peer examples of effective course design for online, hybrid, and blended learning formats. Afternoons are set up to provide faculty with hands-on time to create media content and build courses in Brightspace with the assistance of OTLE staff.
Faculty will have completed initial course plans for fall and will have a plan to move to a remote format quickly if needed.
Faculty will be able to use key Brightspace tools and will understand best practices for their use (e.g., Announcements, Content Area, Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions, Gradebook, Rubrics, Chat, TurnItIn).
Faculty will be able to identify additional technology tools (beyond Brightspace) that will help achieve their course outcomes and will understand best practices for their use (e.g., synchronous content delivery tools, video creation, formative assessment).
Faculty will have completed the work to convert at least one course to a remote or hybrid format, as well as a course review checklist.
