Saxophobia offers a rare and unique glimpse at some of the most unusual saxophones ever manufactured, and the classic melodies associated with this extraordinary musical instrument.  Set in a jazz-combo format, Saxophobia pays tribute to some of the great jazz legends who popularized the instrument and contributed to the development of America's indigenous art form. 

Audience members will see and hear a sopranino—the smallest saxophone in the world; a mammoth six-and-one-half-foot contrabass sax; and virtually everything in between.

The first half of the show will feature a performance with Sax-man Rob Verdi and the Havre High Jazz Band.

Experience Saxophobia January 26th, 2012! Presidio Brass is a dynamic force in American brass chamber music. With a unique and exciting repertoire written specifically for the ensemble, Presidio Brass is committed to providing engaging musical programs as well as developing close ties to their audiences.

Members of Presidio Brass have been seen with major symphony orchestras, including the London Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic; can be heard on soundtracks ranging from video games to major motion pictures; and have been educated at several of America's finest institutions, including the Juilliard School, Boston Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music and USC.

Come hear Presidio Brass February 16th, 2012! Sean Jones is "Magnetic", "Captivating" and "Genuinely soulful". These are just a few of the accolades describing Sean; as a performer whose international stock is on the rise. His interpretive performances of R&B and Soul classics have wooed fans from across Canada and the U.S..

Jones previously fronted R&B vocal group "In Essence", a five member vocal group renowned for their spectacular harmonies. Their recording of "You Will Never Have Another" became a mix show radio hit throughout America leading to a multinational record label deal with BMG Music.

Come listen to Sean Jones February 28th, 2012! Rebecca Spencer & Philip Fortenberry create magic and musical artistry. Together vocalist Rebecca Spencer and pianist Philip Fortenberry, breathe new life into the Big Hits of Broadway and American standards in two exciting acts.

Rebecca has been hailed as a premier Broadway art song interpreter. The Monthly Herald of London says, "Their performance live, redefines romance, virtuosity and human warmth…"

Philip has played for many Broadway productions and national tours including such shows as "Cats", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Saturday Night Fever", "Ragtime", "Seussical-The Musical" and "The Lion King".

Mission

The purpose of the Northern Showcase Concert Association is to promote an appreciation of the arts and provide stimulating, entertaining and educational experiences for the campus and community.

History:

Northern Showcase is in its 30th year of providing a performing arts series for the community of Havre. The committee responsible for Northern Showcase was originally comprised of only faculty members from Northern Montana College but has since been expanded to include college staff members, students and members of local and surrounding communities. Northern Montana College changed its name to Montana State University-Northern in July 1994.

In 2008, the Northern Showcase organization merged with the HiLine Community Concert Association (HLCA) to become the Northern Showcase Concert Association (NSCA). Members of the HLCA have joined the Northern Showcase committee. There is simply less money in our community and more demand on it, so the two organizations decided this merge was best for the future success of the fine arts in our community. Traditionally Northern Showcase has offered 3-5 performances during the academic year in the areas of theatre, dance, musical groups and/or individuals. NSCA will provide 7 performances this year as a result of the merge. NSCA has traditionally received support from the student body, private donors and season ticket sales.
