OUR MISSION:

ReSPONSE raises awareness and provides prevention and intervention services about relationship and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking among MSU-Northern students, faculty and staff through education and training, counseling and support systems. ReSPONSE works with local domestic abuse/sexual assault service programs, city and county law enforcement, justice and violence prevention agencies in Havre, Great Falls and Lewistown, area tribal programs and the state coalition to bring an end to interpersonal violence.

Welcome to our website.

Here, you will find OUR GOALS that support the ReSPONSE MISSION, as well as descriptions of OUR SERVICES, including the education and training programs offered at MSU-Northern, information about reporting campus cases of relationship and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking, links to other sites, and a place to find facts about relationship and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. You will also find information about direct victim services, campus contacts and community, state and national contacts and help lines.

ReSPONSE services are free and confidential. You may contact us by email through the website, but please do remember: NO electronic communication is secure and confidential. To ensure privacy and confidentiality, please contact us by land-line phone or in person.

OUR GOALS:

The original goals for ReSPONSE, established in 2003, are expanded by an additional two goals in 2006.

  • ReSPONSE will strengthen and develop comprehensive university-based coordinated programs and services.

  • ReSPONSE will encourage and create a safe university environment for women.

  • Using existing education and training programs, ReSPONSE will strengthen, improve and expand outreach and resources, especially focusing on Native American and non-traditional students.

  • Responding to constituents' request, ReSPONSE will expand and improve on-campus direct support services.

These goals are supported by the following objectives:

  • Establish standardized primary and follow-up training/education for faculty, staff, administrators and student leaders, Judicial Hearing Board members and Resident Advisors.

  • Establish and strengthen university-community coordinated training programs that educate campus administrators, faculty, university staff to respond effectively in sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking cases.

  • Strengthen university policies, procedures and protocols and train members of university disciplinary boards to respond effectively to charges of violence against women.

  • Collaborate with Stone Child and Fort Belknap tribal colleges to expand outreach and education programming for Native American students at MSUN.

  • Collaborate with non-traditional students to develop materials and delivery methods to meet their unique needs, and,

  • Expand and improve safety and security measures and victim services on campus.

OUR SERVICES:

ReSPONSE services include print and electronic resources, education programs, discussion groups, counseling, advocacy referrals and other campus support services.

Through the local Domestic Abuse Program, direct victim services are offered, including information about victims’ options; support during medical exams, police report and court actions; support and education for family members of victims; and negotiating the laws and regulations between state and tribal governments.

In partnership with the Stone Child College Domestic Abuse Program, ReSPONSE provides programming and connections with advocates at Rocky Boy's Reservation (Chippewa-Cree).

PLEASE NOTE: ReSPONSE, MSU-Northern and our partners do not discriminate against anyone needing services for sexual or intimate partner violence. Because the significant majority (over 90%) of reported cases are perpetrated by men against women, however, the language in most of this site reflects those statistics; that is, generally using female pronouns to refer to victim/survivors and male pronouns to refer to offenders.
