Student Health Service Program

Student Health Service provides a wide range of services. The primary focus of the Center is prevention and health promotion, although limited out-patient type services are also available.

Examples of services offered:

  • Health assessment
  • Physical exams
  • Student Health Insurance Information
  • Immunizations
  • Wellness blood chemistry screenings
  • Basic screening tests including blood pressure, blood sugar, hemoglobin, urinalysis, strep screening, TB skin tests, pregnancy testing, Pap smears, etc.
  • Anonymous AIDS counseling and testing. Condom distribution.
  • Health information and counseling regarding risk assessment and risk reduction.
  • Referral to other campus and community agencies.

Staff

The Center operates under the direction of Sue Swan, RN. Ms Swan is assisted by local physicians, psychologists, eht Hill County Health Department, Hill County Family Planning and MSU-Northern Student Affairs staff. The Director is advised by the Student Health Service Advisory Board comprised of faculty, staff, students and community health professionals. The Center employs an Adult Nurse Practitioner with presciptive privileges three hours a week.

Eligibility

All students enrolled in seven or more credits are eligibile to use the services of the Center. Students enrolled in less than seven credits or dependents of students are eligible to use the Center upon payment of $20 (per semester). Eligilibity is not affected by enrollment in the Student Health Insurance plan.

Hours of Operation

Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Closed Friday

Check with the Center for hours of operation during semester breaks and summer session. The hours of operation are subject to change. Students requiring after hours care need to contact their physician or go to the hospital emergency room.

Professional Affiliation

MSU-Northern is a member of the American College Health Association and follows the policies and operating procedures recommended by the association.

Summer 2008
Student Health Summer 2008 hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday:
9am to 3pm

Due to lack of use the last few years, there will not be a Physician Assistant during the summer until a few weeks before Fall semester starts and we will be glad to do Nursing and Athletic physicals at that time.
