The
Financial Aid Application Process
The
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
is the required application for all federal and state aid programs.
Indicate MSU-Northern (code #002533) in the school release section of
the application. In most cases, you and your parents will need to complete
this application. These are the steps in the process:
- You
send the FAFSA to the federal processor or apply online and mail
in your signature page.
- The
processor sends information electronically to schools listed on
the FAFSA and sends a Student Aid Report (SAR) to you.
- MSUN
sends appropriate correspondence to you.
- You
send all requested documents to MSUN for processing.
- MSUN
notifies you of your eligibility in the form of an award notice.
- You
return the signed award notice to MSUN accepting or declining aid
offered.
Please
Note: There are some additional steps in the process when applying
for any of the Federal Family Education Loan Programs (Federal Stafford,
Federal Unsubsidized Stafford, and Federal PLUS). Specific information
will be included in your financial aid award letter.

Your Financial Aid File
This
page contains links to PDF forms.
PDF forms are read with Adobe's free PDF
Reader software.
Once
the FAFSA information has been electronically sent to MSU-Northern,
there is other paper work that must be filled out. Print out the Check
Sheet. You will be sent the following information and a letter
stating anything that we need from you, or you can check your BANNER
account on line to view any needed information.
-
Student Data Form:
This is a general worksheet that must be completed by every student
every year. It gives us general information that has or has not
been reported on the FAFSA.
-
If
you are picked for verification you must complete the Verification
Worksheet. Students are picked at random for verification
by the Federal Processor. This means you must complete the Verification
Worksheet, attach Student and Parent's (if applicable) 2005 FEDERAL
TAXES (please do not send state taxes), and send them to the Financial
Aid Office. Once these are turned in we must check the information
you reported on your FAFSA and make any changes that need to be
made. If there are corrections your file will not be processed any
further until the new data is delivered to us electronically. You
will also receive a new SAR (Student Aid Report) in the mail.
