Northern students pay tuition/fees according to the number of semester hours for which they register. (This includes courses taken for audit). Charges such as textbooks, laboratory fees, fines (parking, books, etc.), housing and meals are not inlcuded in tuition/fees.

Residence Hall Rates
Included in the tuition fees are:
- Computer Fee - used to purchase computer equipment for instructional use
- Activity Fee - Student Senate governs the use of this fee
- Building Fee - used to help pay construction and renovation costs
- Gym Building Fee - provides for repari, maintenance & operation of the gym
- SUB Use Fee - pays for maintenance and personnel for the Student Union Building
- Athletic Fee - admission to all home athletic events
- Equipment Fee - used to purchase equipment for instructional use
- Technology Fee - pays for an administrative software package
- Health Fee - pays the costs of operating the Student Health Service
- Radio Fee - supports the campus radio station
- Access Fee - covers the cost of maintaining campus parking lots, sidewalks & lighting
- Library Fee - used for enhancing library resources
- Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Fee - used for maintenance/replacement of the campus information technology infrastructure
- Annual - supports the yearbook and entitles the student to a copy of the book

Installment/Deferred Payment Plan
The following installment payment plan for tuition/fees, room and board is available.
- At least 1/4 of the total amount must be paid when the student enrolls.
- One-half of the total due must be paid within 30 days.
- Three-fourths of the total due must be paid within 60 days.
- The full amount due must be paid within 90 days.
- A late fee of $15.00 will be assessed for each payment that is late.
- An administrative charge of $30.00 per semester will be levied for use of the plan.
- Payments must be made even though the student withdraws from school. Any refund due the student because of withdrawal, either voluntary or involuntary, will be applied toward the satisfaction of the obligation. Should the refund be larger than the amount outstanding, the excess of refund due over balance outstanding will be returned to the student. Any unpaid balance of the obligation must be paid before the student may re-enroll, graduate, obtain a transcript, or transfer to another college and/or university.
