The best way to avoid being a bandwidth hog is to remove all peer-to-peer file-sharing programs from your computer.

The easiest way to stop people from downloading from your computer is to turn your computer off.

To disable file sharing on your Mac:

1. Click the Apple icon at the top left corner of the screen
2. Click Control Panel in the drop-down menu
3. Click Extension Manager in the next menu
4. A new box appears with a list of items and check boxes: Scroll down the list and find File Sharing
5. Verify the box is not checked (uncheck it if it is checked)
6. Scroll further down the list and find Print Share
7. Verify this box is also not checked (uncheck it if it is checked)
8. Click OK
9. Close the Control Panel

Disabling filesharing will not remove any data files (like MP3 files) that you have on your computer.
