The MSU-Northern Skylights women's basketball team started with
10 new faces on the roster including 8 freshmen. With only 5
returnees from Erickson's first year squad, the Skylights were once
again building a new foundation for the future. The 2003-04 season
ended with the Skylights losing in the semi finals of the Frontier
Conference Tournament. Coach Mike Erickson's Skylights finished
the season 21-13 overall and 9 5 in Frontier Conference play. After
a slow 3-4 start in the conference, the Skylights fought back to
record a 6-1 finish and earned a 1st round home playoff game, in
which the Skylights defeated the upstart University of Great Falls
Lady Argos 78-71.
The Skylights lose two seniors, Anna Bateman, and Khadigha
Mohamed, but the future looks very bright. Coach Erickson feels
positive about the improvements and the direction of the team. Although
there were many peeks and valleys throughout the season, the Skylights
took it upon themselves to bond, and most importantly, play together
as a team. "Fine tuning" and "fundamentals"
will be the two key words for the Skylight's offseason. The players
are here, the crowds are back, and all the Skylights have to do
now is WIN!
