Skylights Volleyball

Winter 2003

Skylights volleyball finished the season 11-18. After the strongest start MSU-Northern had seen in nearly 10 years by finishing 3rd at the Dickinson State University tournament and then defeating Westminster, MT Tech, and University of Great Falls to place 2nd at the U of M Western tournament, the Skylights showed their youth and lack of confidence during Frontier Conference play. The Skylights were able to pull off a historic home victory against Conference leader U of M Western, yet lost to the 7th and 8th placed teams on the road. Former Skylights basketball player Tamecia Watkins (Scottsdale, AR) broke Northern's school record for double doubles with 22. She was honored by the Conference by receiving the first ever Newcomer of the Year award and was also named honorable mention AllConference. Junior, middle blocker, Tanja Bruski (Billings, MT) also broke a school record for highest match hitting percentage; she, too, was honored by the Conference by being named 2nd team AllConference and was also honorable mention All Region.
