Toyota Motor Sales USA just added shop manuals, uniforms, and a Toyota Corolla to the long list of gifts that Montana State University-Northern garners as a Toyota T-TEN school. Toyota, a long-standing supporter of MSU-Northern, improves MSU-Northern's ability to provide a diversified automotive education by contributing faculty training tools, and equipment to MSU-Northern as well as providing cooperative education and employment opportunities. As part of the Toyota Technical Education Network or T-TEN program, MSU-Northern teaches a variety of classes designed to prepare students as Toyota Technicians. MSU-Northern students also take eight ASE certification requirement tests Such preparation benefits Toyota dealerships, saving them from having to conduct extensive and costly training that Toyota Motor Sales USA requires, and making MSU-Northern T-TEN graduates particularly desirable to Toyota Dealerships. In turn, Toyota supports MSU-Northern as a T-TEN school by donating cars and equipment. Currently, MSU-Northern possesses 25 vehicles donated by Toyota besides several power trains, engines, transmissions, etc. In total, Toyota has contributed more than a half million dollars worth of scholarships, training equipment, faculty training and other support to MSU-Northern. "With the support of corporations like Toyota, we can teach the latest advances in automotive systems, which is essential if students are to keep abreast of today’s swiftly-changing technology,” says Kevin Johnson, Professor at MSU-Northern. After two semesters, a student who joins the T-TEN program gets the opportunity to have a cooperative education experience with Toyota. That way, they have hands-on experience in a Toyota dealership before entering the workforce. When students finish the program, they get to choose $2,000 dollars in Snap-On tools from a list that Toyota provides. Although students are not required to go to work for Toyota, an MSU-Northern student possesses the knowledge and experience necessary to begin a successful career in a Toyota Dealership..
