![]() The Welding Technololgy certificate program is a nine-month program designed to prepare students for full-time employment in the welding industry. There are opportunities for graduates of this program in welding shops, construction companies, oil companies, the military, maintenance and repair welding on heavy equipment, shipbuilding, and production welding in manufacturing of automobiles, aircraft, electronics and metal products. Students study the theory and practice of oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, brazing, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and CNC plasma arc cutting. Related subjects include safety, blueprint reading and drawing, machining, mechanical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and the testing and quality assurance of welds. The certificate program incorporates student certification in the American Welding Society's (AWS) Structural Welding Code. This program is articulated through Montana's Tech Prep program for area high schools and also articulates with Northern programs in auto mechanics, auto body, diesel mechanics, agricultural mechanics, and teacher education.
