Program Overview
Student working on a computer aided design

MSU-Northern offers an American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) certified Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Design Drafting Technology (DRFT) through its College of Technical Sciences

The fundamentals of technical drawing remain constant, but the tools used to produce technical drawings and models change almost daily. In response to these changes our program strives to incorporate the latest technological advancements from the field to aid in the application of the basic to advanced design concepts. There is a strong emphasis on computer aided design throughout the program along with courses emphasizing technical animation, simulation, and multimedia design and development.

Behind every product, building, or process there are a myriad of technical drawings and models that were created using the techniques and principles that are taught in drafting courses. The Design Drafting Technology program is a comprehensive program integrating coursework in architectural, mechanical, and civil engineering applications. Participants in the program have access to modern equipment and current software to provide a meaningful experience leading to a rewarding career in a variety of fields.
