Program Overview
Auto Student
Our programs in Automotive Technology are certified by the NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) and offer you comprehensive coursework in the fundamentals of all mechanical, fuel, and electronic systems found on modern vehicles.

Emphasis is placed on hands-on learning in the laboratory and through cooperative education experiences, where you have the opportunity to earn money, university credit, and on the job training as part of your education. For example, you may choose to take part in the Toyota Corporation's T-Ten program that may provide you with internship opportunities in Toyota dealerships and financial assistance. Or you can take part in the Ford Light Maintenance & Repair program and recieve extensive hands-on experience servicing late model Ford or Lincoln Mercury vehicles.

Automotive Technology program offerings include a Bachelor of Science degree, an Associate of Applied Science degree, a minor, and a certificate program. Course content in all programs allows you the chance to learn, begin a career, and return to expand your knowledge without losing credits or repeating courses.

Career Opportunities

The one-year certificate and two-year associate's degree will prepare you to enter the profession as a line mechanic in a dealership, independent shop, or maintenance facility.

Baccalaureate graduates may enter the industry as technical representatives, service managers, specialized diagnosticians, or in similar mid-management positions with companies such as Ford, GM, General Electric, and Toyota.

Minors in a variety of areas allow you to explore interests that complement the automotive major. Students looking forward to management and supervisory positions are encouraged to choose electives that will enhance their communication and organizational abilities.
