Program Overview

MSU-Northern's Agricultural Technology program offers courses in agricultural sciences, production, management, computing, marketing, business and mechanics, which provide opportunities for students to tailor their coursework to meet their career objectives.

The Agriculture Technology Associate of Science Degree is a two-year degree that combines agricultural sciences, business and technology courses. Freshman courses include study in introductory animal and plant science, agricultural marketing and economics, farm and ranch management and agricultural computing. Sophomore courses include more advanced courses in soil science, crop production, livestock management, feeds and feeding, forage and range management and pest management. Students are also able to concentrate by taking elective courses in the areas of agribusiness, agri-technology or ag-mechanics. Students successfully completing the agriculture technology degree acquire a well rounded knowledge base in general agriculture, agriculture science, agriculture technology and agribusiness.

Completion of the AAS degree in Agricultural Technology meets all requirements for the first two years of the Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Operations Technology, thus forming a two plus two-year degree program.

Career Opportunities

AAS graduates often find employment with businesses and industries related to food and fiber production, marketing, and processing. Opportunities also exist for employment with governmental agencies, private industry, and as farm/ranch operators. When combined with a business major or minor, the programs are designed to provide students with education in sales, merchandising, accounting, and skills required for management positions with agriculturally related businesses.
