Did you know?

You can reset your own Computer Logon and NetID/Brightspace passwords if you've forgotten them by going to this Password Reset Portal.

You have 2 IDs:

Banner ID

It looks like: -12345678 and uses a PIN.

It is used for:
MyInfo
Password Reset Portal (first time only)

MyInfo gives you access to personal information such as your NetID, transcripts, class schedules, grades, financial aid packages, time cards, pay information, etc.

The Password Reset Portal is the location where you set/change your NetID password

NetID

It looks like: a11b222 and uses a password.

It is used for:
Campus computers
Box (cloud storage)
Brightspace LE (formerly D2L)
MSUN Secure Wireless
Microsoft Office 365
Email

VPN

MyInfo

To change your PIN for MyInfo you need to:

  1. Log into MyInfo
  2. Click on "Personal Information"
  3. Click on "Change PIN"
  4. You can then enter your current PIN & your new PIN.
    (Note: PIN resets may take up to 10 minutes to take effect)
  5. While you're in MyInfo, you can also find your NetID:
    1. Click on "Personal Information"
    2. Click on "View IDs"

If you've forgotten your PIN for MyInfo:

  1. Enter your ID number and then
  2. Click the "Forgot PIN?" button.

Always remember to LOG OFF MyInfo by clicking EXIT in the upper right hand corner and close your browser to protect your information!

Student E-mail

All MSU-Northern students have free access to Microsoft Office 365 which includes your official MSUN email. You use your NetID and password to log in.

If you don't know your NetID, you can retrieve it by:

  1. Log into MyInfo
  2. Click on "Personal Information"
  3. Click on "View IDs"

Once you have your NetID and password, you can log into Office365.

Always remember to LOG OUT of O365 and close your browser to protect your information! 

Network Access (Logging on to computers)

Network accounts for students are automatically generated after they register for classes.

If you don't know your NetID, you can retrieve it by:

  1. Log into MyInfo
  2. Click on "Personal Information"
  3. Click on "View IDs"

Your password the very first time you log in is your birth date, in this format: DD-MMM-YY

For example:

The starting password for someone born on January 3, 1999 is: 03-JAN-99
The starting password for someone born on December 14, 1997 is: 14-DEC-97

Network accounts & email for employees are created after they complete their Human Resources paperwork and fill out an Account Application (available from Human Resources or at the Help Desk in Cowan Hall 117B).

ALL users are required to change their password the first time they logon.

Your Northern network access password must meet the following complexity requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 8 characters in length
  • Must contain characters from at least three of the following four categories:
    • Uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • Lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphanumeric characters: !@#$%^&*()_+|~-=\'{}[]:";'<>?,./

Brightspace (formerly Desire2Learn)

Brighstpace is a web-based Learning Environment used for most classes. Note that Brightspace accounts are sometimes not available until a few days after registering for a class.

To login to Brighspace:

  1. Go to https://msunonline.org
  2. Use your NetID and password to log on.

If you don't know your NetID, you can retrieve it by:

  1. Log into MyInfo
  2. Click on "Personal Information"
  3. Click on "View IDs"
