Did you know that you can reset your own
Portal, Computer Logon and NetID/D2L passwords
if you've forgotten them?

You will need your MyInfo ID (aka Banner ID) & PIN
when you go to this password change page.
Note: your SSN will NOT work as your ID on the Portal password change page!

MyInfo

MyInfo allows access to personal information such as transcripts, class schedules, grades, financial aid packages, and pay stubs. You will need your ID number and PIN to login to MyINFO.

To change your PIN you need to:

  1. Log into MyInfo
  2. Click on "Personal Information"
  3. Click on "Change PIN"
  4. You can then enter your current PIN & your new PIN. (Note: PIN resets may take up to 10 minutes to take effect)

New MyInfo PINs must be:

  • Between 8 and 15 characters long
  • Contain at least one letter (a-z, A-Z)
  • Contain at least one number (0-9)
  • and can contain (NOT required): $,*,%,@,#, &
Example:

If you've forgotten your PIN for MyInfo, you can enter your ID number and click the "Forgot PIN?" button.

Always remember to LOG OFF MyInfo by clicking EXIT in the upper right hand corner and close your browser to protect your information!

Student E-mail

Student email, calendaring and document sharing are provided though Goggle Apps. To access these applications, you will need your NetID and password.

If you don’t know your NetID, you can retrieve it and set your password by logging on to the Password reset page (you will need your MyInfo ID number and PIN)
Note: your SSN will NOT work as your ID on the Portal password change page!

Once you have your NetID and password, you can access your email through the Portal (see below)  -OR-  by going directly to http://mail.gapps.msun.edu/. If you have not accessed your email before, you will need to Activate your Google account.

Network Access (Logging on to computers)

Faculty & Staff
Employees receive their User Name for network, email & MyPortal access after completing their Human Resources paperwork and filling out an Account Application (available at the Help Desk in Cowan Hall 117B).

Students
Your network account is automatically generated when you register. Student User Names for accessing MSU-Northern’s network the lab machines on campus is the same as your Portal Username.

If you don’t know your Portal Username, you can retrieve it logging on to the Portal and NetID Password reset page (you will need your MyInfo ID number and PIN)
Please Note: You cannot use the Portal & NetID Password reset page to reset your Network Access password.

Note: your SSN will NOT work as your ID on the Portal password change page!

Your password the very first time you log-in is your birth date, in this format: DD-MMM-YY

For example:

The starting password for someone born on January 3, 1991 is: 03-JAN-91
The starting password for someone born on December 14, 1989 is: 14-DEC-89

You will be required to change your password the first time you logon.

Faculty, Staff & Students

Your Northern network access password must meet the following complexity requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 8 characters in length
  • Must contain characters from three of the following four categories:
    • Uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • Lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphanumeric characters:
      !@#$%^&*()_+|~-=\`{}[]:";'<>?,./

Always remember to LOG OFF the computer to protect your information!

Desire2Learn

Desire2Learn is a web-based Learning Management System used for some classes. Note that Desire2Learn accounts are sometimes not available until a few days after registering for a class.

To login to Desire2Learn:

  1. Browse to https://msunonline.org and login.
  2. Use your NetID and password to log on.

If you don’t know your NetID, you can retrieve it and set your password by going to the Portal and NetID Password reset page (you will need your MyInfo ID number and PIN)

Note: your SSN will NOT work as your ID on the Portal password change page!

Always remember to LOG OFF the Desire2Learn system (the logoff button in the upper right corner of the screen on the navigation bar) and close your browser to protect your information!

Portal

Your Portal account is used for access to services such as announcements, student email, and Course Studio. If you don't know your username, it will be displayed when you reset password via web on the MSU-Bozeman web site  (you will need your MyInfo ID number and PIN)
Note: your SSN will NOT work as your ID on the Portal password change page!

-OR-  you can get your username from MyInfo:

  1. Browse to the MyInfo web site.
  2. Click "Enter Secure Area". You will be prompted for ID and PIN.
  3. Click "Announcing MyMSU Portal"
  4. Your username will be listed under "HOW DO I ACCESS MyMSU PORTAL?"

You can also change your password anytime you are logged in to the Portal by clicking "My Account" located in the upper left hand side of the screen.

Always remember to LOG OFF the Portal by clicking Logout icon in the upper right hand corner and close your browser to protect your information!

Library Proxy Server Accounts

If you are new user or have forgotten your password: Request a new Library Proxy Server password
(NOTE: You will need access to your preferred email account. For students, this is typically your Portal account.)

If you know your password: Change your Library Proxy Server password
