Exercise Science

Exercise Science Path

Students choosing the Exercise Science concentration take courses related to comprehensive physical assessments and exercise prescriptions in sport, fitness, and clinical contexts. These students are encouraged to seek internships in sport, fitness, and clinical environments. Upon completing the Exercise Science program, students will be able to:

1. Conduct and interpret preparticipation health screening procedures and health-related fitness assessments.

2. Prescribe and implement safe and effective exercise programs for special populations (i.e., older adults, younger adults, and pregnant women), apparently healthy clients, and clients with controlled disease. 

3. Apply effective behavioral strategies, motivational techniques, and communication techniques to optimize adoption and adherence of exercise and other healthy behaviors. 

4. Develop and disseminate risk management guidelines for a health/fitness facility to reduce member, employee, and business risk.

5. Seek certification and employment in clinical exercise, fitness, and athletic settings.

Career Opportunities for Integrated Health Sciences Graduates

Graduates of MSU-Northern's Integrated Health Sciences program pursue employment as health educators, consultants, community health specialists and health coordinators. They find jobs at government agencies, non-profit organizations, hospitals, and community-based organizations. Many graduates also, apply to graduate programs throughout the country in allied health and health related programs, leading to careers , such as physical therapy, and athletic training.
