Tucker Montgomery was a former MSU-Northern student from 1999-2001. During his time at Northern, Tucker belonged to the Alternative Outdoor Sports club that was instrumental in the planning and implementation of the MSU-Northern Folf Course. "This project started off as a hope of a few students sitting around dreaming of what could make the campus a better place to be; after jumping through a lot of bureaucratic hoops and political boundaries, we got it to happen" stated AOS President, Ryan Gerhauser. (Northern Light-April 12, 2000) Tucker was one of the welders for the disc golf baskets on the then 9-hole course.
The other students who belonged to the Alternative Outdoor Sports Club were Tygve "Spike" Magelssen, Toby Stack, Mik Gratzer, Ryan Gerhauser, Shalon Denson, Lindsay Atwell, Rhonda Tadej, Jason Petkovich and Sam Horpestad. Professor Virgil Hawkinson helped with the design and building of the baskets. Philip Sunberg, Scott Bryson and Professor Darryl Thackeray painted the baskets. A lot of preparation went into this project from its inception. The layout took many games and walk-throughs to successfully design the course; which was fun work, playing while laying out the course. The first annual AOS Disc Golf (Folf) tournament was held on April 15, 2000.
Tucker Montgomery was killed in an automobile accident in 2001. The members of the AOS Club and the MSU-Northern Intramurals & Recreation Committee have continued this tournament since 2002 to honor Tucker for his dedication, support, kindness and generosity.
