ITS has provided dial-up Internet access at no cost to Northern students, faculty and staff for many years, beginning when there were no local internet Service Providers. However, because dial-up and broadband access has become very common, we highly recommend using an Internet Service Provider (ISP) for your off campus Internet needs. We will not be increasing the number of lines available, upgrading, or replacing modems when they fail.
If you still wish to use our 28.8 Kbps modems, you will need to come to the ITS Help Desk in Cowan Hall 117B and fill out a dial-up account request form. You must be a currently enrolled student or current employee to receive an account.
Due of the very limited number of dial-up modems and the number of students, faculty and staff we serve, we request that all users restrict their access time to 2 hours or less each day. With this in mind, please do not share your access with your friend(s) or child(ren). Sessions will disconnect automatically after 120 minutes.
Although ITS does not charge for this dial-up internet service, your phone company may charge for the call placed. You should check with your phone company to make sure the number you will be dialing is local; ITS will not be held accountable for phone charges, if any, that may result from connecting to the modem pool.
