Accessing Library Resources from off-campus
Logon | Change Password | Set New Password
Off-Campus access to library resources is provided through the MSU-Bozeman Library Proxy Service. Click on the resource (index, database, electronic book) that you wish to use and the “User Authentication Required for MSU Northern Library” box will appear. Enter your Banner/Student ID number (which can be found on your student ID card or obtained from the Registrar’s Office) as the Username. The Password is one that you set.
If you have not created or have forgotten your password, click on the “Get a new password” link. If you wish to change your password, click on the “Change your password” link.
After entering your username and password, click on Login to begin searching the resource.

To create a new password, following these steps:

Click on the “Get a new password” link on the User Authentication box. The Request a new Library services password box will appear.

Enter your Banner/Student ID number and your initials in the boxes then click the Submit button.

You will see a message that an email has been sent to your official campus email address at @myportal.montana.edu or to another email address that is on file with the Registrar's Office. If you are unable to access your @myportal.montana.edu mail, contact the MSUN Information Technology Services Department (ITS) at 265-3765. You can also contact the Library Staff to have this message routed to a different email address.

Log into your email account. Click on the link provided in the email message. NOTE: Some email servers may route this message to your Junk E-Mail folder.

When you click on the https://auth.lib.montana.edu link in the email that you received, you will go to the following page.

Enter your Banner/Student ID number and a password that includes letters and numbers only (no special characters), 6-10 characters long that includes at least 1 number and 1 letter. The password is Case Senstive. Click on Submit.

7. Return to the the database that you want to search. When the User Authentication box comes up type in your username, password and click on Submit.
