Dial-up
MSU-Northern has provided network dial-in lines for the last few years to allow a reasonable number of faculty, staff, and students to check email from home and do brief searches on the web. We currently have 20 commercial-grade 28.8 Kbps modems for this purpose. Our dial-in service was not designed to support network-intensive services nor the dial-in needs of the entire campus community. We anticipated that people would increasingly rely on commercial dial-in services as modem speeds increased and new technologies become available. ISP's with local numbers:

OneWest.net
Triangle Telephone cooperative/Central Montana Communications
EarthLink

We will continue to provide dial-in services at the current level, but we also strongly encourage you to opt for one of the Internet Service Providers now available via local calls in Havre area. We do not plan not to increase the number of dial-in lines, nor to change to faster modems. Dial-in lines demand frequent monitoring and resetting -- something commercial providers can and must do, but which is a lower priority for us.

Dial-in account application forms are available at the ITS Help Desk in Cowan Hall 117B. You must be a currently enrolled student or current employee to receive an account. We do ask that all users restrict your dial-in activity to two hours a day. (See also: Setting up your computer for the dial-in lines.)

E-mail Accounts
As a registered student, you are provided a free e-mail account shortly after registering that can store up to 25 MB. This is your official e-mail account for ALL University related matters. You can access your account through the MyMSU Portal at: http://myportal.montana.edu (Note: if you have a pop-up blocker installed you must configure it to allow pop-ups from myportal.montana.edu)

Usernames
To find your username go to MyInfo (aka Banner Web), click on Enter Secure Area
and enter your user ID and PIN. If you don't know your PIN contact the Registrar's office.

If you are having problems with MyMSU Portal, come to the ITS Help Desk in Cowan Hall 117B and be sure to bring your student ID.
