To set up power management in Macintosh computers with operating systems 8.5 and above :

  1. In the upper left-hand corner of the screen, select:
    Apple Menu
    --> Control Panels --> Energy Saver.

  2. The Energy Saver dialog box will appear. You can set the amount of time of inactivity before the computer goes into sleep mode. Click the Show Details button.

    Recommended settings:
    Set the System Sleep slider to Never.
    Set the Display Sleep slider to 30 mins.
    Set the Hard Disk slider to Never. (Note: Use of the hard disk feature is not recommended at this time due to concerns for data integrity.)
    Close the window.

Once sleep mode initiates, the monitor will go black. To wake the computer up from sleep mode, tap the space bar.

NOTE: Never disable the Energy Saver Extension in the Extensions Manager. It will cause the machine to go to sleep and never wake up.
