Employment Application Tips
- Read the Notice of Vacancy carefully! It will contain the minimum qualifications
for the position and identify any additional information you may need to provide.
- A resume will not substitute for an application in the recruitment for classified
positions at MSU-Northern.
- Your application needs to convey how you specifically meet the minimum qualifications
and requirements of the position. These are listed on the Notice of Vacancy. A job
title listed on an application does not demonstrate qualifying experience. Clearly
explain your qualifying experience in the Experience and Education portion of the
application.
- List each job separately, even if two or more are in the same organization. Include
all relevant experience, paid or unpaid. You may attach additional sheets of information
if necessary.
- Avoid jargon and acronyms. Convey your experience in commonly used terms so that
the information you provide can be sufficiently evaluated.
- Provide an average number of hours worked per week for all jobs you list on your
application. If the number of hours is less than 40, the length of time you held
the position will be prorated in the calculation of your experience.
- Your application does not have to be typed, but it does need to be written legibly
in ink. You will not receive credit for information that is difficult to read or
understand.
- Remember to sign your application. Unsigned applications may not be accepted.
- Your application materials must be submitted by no later than 5:00 p.m. on the application
deadline date.
