If you think college is for others and not for you, you're wrong. Don't give up on applying to college before you take a good look at it. "I don't know what I want to do." You're not alone! Most college students don't know either and if they do, most change their major while in college. With a variety of classes at Northern you are able to explore different options. You get to hear what you like and don't like. "I've been in school for 12 years." College is very different from high school - the classes are spread out and you are able to study topics that interest you. If you're and education major, you could also take an agriculture or diesel class. Variety often makes college more enjoyable and feel like less of a grind."I've had enough school, I want to get a job." College graduates make almost twice as much as high school graduates. According to the U.S. Department of Education, a college grad makes on average $54,704 and a high school grad makes $30,056. That's more than $700,000 over a 30-year career! "I can't afford college." Financial aid is based on the needs of students. Therefore, the less money you have, the more you can get for college. Grants and loans are just the start - there are many different scholarship opportunities to help with your education. Seventy-nine percent of all Northern students receive financial aid. "I don't know how to apply to college or which one to go to." Join the club! Most high school seniors are still choosing the right school. One of the best things to do is visit a college campus. Northern offers campus tours on a daily basis. Anyone in our admissions department would be happy to help you with the application process. "Nobody in my family has ever gone to college." Of course college can be tough, but it's the right move. Being the first person in your family to attend college means that you could qualify for grants and free services. So it actually could be the best reason to go to college! "I won't fit in." Talk about diversity, Northern has students from all over the world. College gives you the opportunity to meet people who are just like you and who are completely different than yourself. It allows you to start over and be the person you want to be and not the person you were in high school. "College is too hard." Most students worry about the same thing. It’s not just the “A” students who go to college. Northern offers freshman courses that will get you on the right track and teach you effective study strategies that will help you through your college career. Northern has great faculty and tutors that can help along the way. Our goal is to help you succeed!
