A New Partnership

The newly formed Friends of the Vande Bogart Library would like to ask you to join in building the Library book collection. There are several ways you can be part of this exciting partnership. One of the best ways you can help is to sponsor books that will help to improve our resources and the quality of education a MSU-Northern.

A Strong Foundation

Books have always been the foundation of an advanced education, and unlike magazine articles, books don't travel well electronically. Worse, books, especially the reference and technical books so essential to higher education are becoming increasingly expensive - the price is going up nine to ten percent each year. The result is that although the Vande Bogart Library is becoming increasingly efficient through use of electronic resources and sharing with other libraries, the library has a hard time buying the books which are basic to the University's academic programs.

Continuing to Advance

Today at the Vande Bogart Library students enjoy a state of the art facility that allows them to search for books from several major libraries, or read magazine articles available via computerized databases. Last spring received several commendations from the Northwest Association of Colleges for our efforts to make more resources available to students through electronic databases and cooperative agreements with other institutions. As wonderful as this technology is, it can never replace a book.

Opportunities for Participation

The Friends of the Library Honorarium Program is a practical, gracious, way to pay lasting tribute to a loved one. You may simply request that a book or books be added to the Vande Bogart Library in honor of the person or persons you designate. The Library then completes a bookplate and secures it to the inside front cover of the book bought with your contribution. This results in generations of students that keep your memories alive while learning from the books you provided.

Please joins us in strengthening the Vande Bogart Library book collection by pledging your support by mailing your tax-deductible donation to the MSU-Northern Foundation at PO Box 1691, Havre, MT 59501.

Every $50 donation entitles you to a bookplate in honor of your loved ones. Please include names of those you want honored as you would like it printed on the bookplates. We will also be happy to notify the honored individuals or their families if you would enclose their address.

Membership in Friends of the Library also entitles you to our Friends Newsletter, invitations to events and a Friends library card.
