Desiree Gatin

 

MSU-Northern Volleyball Coach Greg Ryan announced today that Saskatchewan athlete Desiree Gatin has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for Northern. “Des” is a great athlete who has competed in a variety of sports. She holds the Prince Albert City Shot Put record in the grade 11 category. She was rookie of the year for her Middle School and her High School in Volleyball. She competed as a club volleyball player for the Prince Albert Toppers for Coach Don Laing, one of the finest coaches in Saskatchewan.  She was member of the Saskatchewan Provincial team from grade 8 through grade 12. In addition to this she is a great student and will study in the Health Promotion field at Northern. Coach Ryan is quoted as saying “I am very pleased to add Desiree to our program. She has been a leader at every level she has competed at Most importantly she is honest and willing to work very hard.”

 

Nicole Gwynn

MSU-Northern Volleyball Coach Greg Ryan announced today that Hamilton High School Standout and team captain Nicole Gwynn has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete at Northern.  Nicole was a 1st team all conference all star as a junior as well as 1st team all state and 1st team all conference as a senior. Nicole started her volleyball career playing with the Mountain West Club Team in Logan Utah from grade 6-9.. She played varsity for Hamilton High since she moved back to Hamilton

Coach Ryan is quoted as saying “I am very pleased to add an outstanding Montanan to our program.  We recruited Nicole because she is talented, experienced and mentally tough.”

 

 

 
 

Ashley Lawson

 

 

MSU-Northern Volleyball Coach Greg Ryan announced today that Saskatchewan athlete Ashley Lawson has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for Northern. Ashley is a native of Oxbow, Saskatchewan and the daughter of Brian and Gail Lawson. She currently plays for the South East Stingers coached by Mickey Adams. Ashley is an outstanding volleyball player and in 2007 was selected to the Manitoba Club volleyball all-star team. Ashley has played with her high school team, Oxbow Black Knights, coached by Dana Krienke, since 2002 and has won several district and regional championships.

In 2006 and 2007 she represented her school in the provincial championships. In addition to this Ashley has been an honor roll student since 2003.

Coach Ryan is quoted as saying “I am very pleased to add Ashley to our program. We recruited Ashley because she has a reputation for being a great competitor as well as a great team person.”

Shaina Evans

MSU-Northern Volleyball Coach Greg Ryan announced today that Montana Shaina Evans from Flathead High School in Kalispell has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Skylights in 2008. Shaina is a multi-talented athlete having competed for her school in Basketball, softball and swimming in addition to her Volleyball commitment.  “Shaina is a leader” said Coach Ryan as evidenced by her selection as Varsity Team Captain. At 5’8” she will add depth to the outside hitting position for the Skylights. Shaina is also a terrific student. She is Academic All-State, she has been on the Honor Roll since grade 9, as well  as being a published writer and is enrolled in honors classes.

Northern is a great fit for me I can get a great education, be close to home and friends and have a great opportunity to compete as a volleyball player” said Shaina. Both her parents Linda and Gary attended Northern as well as numerous family friends.

“I am very excited to be able to add another great athlete from the State to our program.” Shaina is a great “energy gal” said Coach Ryan. “She is a strong athlete who adds positive energy to any competitive environment”


 
 
 
Natasha Dryland

MSU-Northern Volleyball Coach Greg Ryan announced today that Natasha Dryland from North Star High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Skylights in 2008. Natasha has been a standout athlete in Volleyball, Basketball and track since her freshman year when she was the Gatorade player of the year in Volleyball. In her junior year she was an All-Conference All-star in Basketball receiving numerous awards for best field goal and free throw%, the top Field athlete in Track and field and was a Montana National Guard All-Academic Team in 2006. In her senior year she led her Volleyball team to Conference championship with an appearance at the divisional championships.

Natasha is also the first player from the Northern Montana Volleyball Club to continue her career at Northern. In addition to all the athletic and academic awards Tasha finds time to be a 4-H member as well as lettering in choir.

“I'm excited and eager to play at Northern and for their coaching staff. I can't wait to get started playing at a higher level” said Natasha.

“I have been looking forward to having Tasha join the Skylights” said Coach Ryan, “Her strength, perseverance and all-round athletic ability make her a great fir for the program”
