Malta’s Schwenke inks with Skylights
Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball coach Chris Mouat has announced the signing of Laramie Schwenke to join the Skylight program. Schwenke, a 5’8” guard, is entering her senior year at Malta High School.
Mouat said, “We are very pleased to have Laramie joining the Skylight program and feel that she is an outstanding way to lead off our 2008-2009 recruiting class. Laramie has had three great years at Malta and we’re looking forward to following her progress as a senior and are very excited to add a quality Hi-Line student-athlete to our program.”
Last season, Schwenke averaged 13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals per game in helping Malta to a perfect 26-0 record and Class B State Championship. She is a two-time All-State and All-Conference selection and was a member of the 2007 State Class B All-Tournament Team.
“Laramie is coming from one of the top programs in the state, and she is a proven winner,” Mouat said. “We’ve been fortunate to have had a lot of opportunities to watch her play and get to know her as a person over the past couple of years. I think she is one of the elite guards in the state and a great addition to the Skylight program.”
In her three years at Malta, the M-ettes have compiled a 58-13 overall record while advancing to the State Class B Tournament in all three years. In addition to the state title in 2007, Malta also took home 4th place honors in 2006.
Mouat continued, “Laramie has excellent guard skills and is a pretty complete player. She is strong off of the dribble, finishes well, and she has the ability to hit the open three-point shot. Without a doubt, one of her biggest strengths is her unselfishness. Laramie always finds a way to make her teammates better. To top it off, she is a gym rat that simply loves to play the game.”
Schwenke also participates in volleyball and golf at Malta High School. She is the daughter of Dusty Schwenke and Desiree Goodman.
