Lights Basketball Head Coach Shawn Huse is very pleased to announce the signing of  6’7” sophomore forward Drew Pettersen of Everett, WA.  Pettersen played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Edmonds Community College(13-13 in ‘05-‘06) in the thirty-four team NWAACC (Northwest Athletic Association of Junior Colleges - made up of all the junior colleges in Washington and Oregon).

"Drew is a very high-level character guy who brings a great deal of positives to our program," said Huse.  "He has a team-first mentality, a consistently positive attitude and is another solid student-athlete to have on this campus and in our community.  He carries a 3.7 overall GPA and is very determined to earn his Graphic Design degree at MSU-Northern.”

Pettersen finished a brilliant year, amassing very impressive stats and honors as he:

  • Ranked 5th in the entire NWAACC in conference scoring at 22.1 points/game, and 13th in the entire NWAACC in overall scoring at 19.1 points/game.
  • Ranked 13th in the entire NWAACC in conference rebounding at 7.9 rebounds/game, and 12th in the entire NWAACC in overall rebounding at 8.1 rebounds/game.
  • Ranked 2nd  in the entire NWAACC in conference combined-shooting percentages at 54.4 FG%, and 72.4 FT%, and 10th  in the entire NWAACC in overall combined-shooting percentages at 53.6 FG%, and 74.3 FT%.
  • Took over 30 charges last season.
  • Earned First Team All-Conference on the five-member team for the NWAACC North division and was the third leading scorer in the NWAACC All-Star event with 17 points.  He also had 6 rebounds in his contest.

“Drew comes from a solid program which was coached by former Montana Grizzly basketball player Nate DuChesne.  He was in his first year at Edmonds CC and was very instrumental in helping Drew land with us," Huse added. "The Tritons (Edmonds CC) are in store for some great things in the future under his leadership.  He was a great high school coach for many years and did a great job in his inaugural season of molding his group into a team and helping Drew develop into an extremely productive forward.”

“I believe Drew will be a great addition to an MSU-Northern team that already has many pieces in place.  Drew was our hardest worker and most consistent player all season.  Hand's down, he was our team MVP.  He will be a very good player in the Frontier Conference," said DuChesne.

Huse concluded, “On the floor, he contributes several things at a key position for a team.  His consistent hard work, hustle, and ability to score and rebound while shooting good percentages, helps us get that much closer to where we left off last season.  He makes a nice compliment to our returnees, who have worked very hard this spring, and we are very excited he chose the Lights.”
