MSU-Northern Wrestling Update

The first wrestling trip was not a pleasant one, for the first time in my twelve years at Northern I had two guys not make weight for a dual. Yes, I have had worst, like a couple of guys not showing up in the morning when the team was departing (they broke) or another two who did not show up and packed and left school while we were at the tournament without saying anything but, this always seems worst because unlike those others you count on these individuals who stick it out.

In the two duals on Friday, we had to forfeit the 149 weight class and had a close call with Western Wyoming College winning 26-19; our next match with Huron University was an easy victory 54-6, their only points coming from the forfeit.

On Saturday, November 6^th Northern participated in the Northwest Open at Powell, WY. Things looked much improved, as Northern took SIX gold’s and one silver and had another 7 in the top four places. Senior Stryder Davis-157 looked very good pinning all six of his opponents over the two days and freshman Brian Fritchman-197/HWT pinned 5 opponents and placed 3^rd at the Northwest Open. Jesse Juarez did not compete due to an late injury that is minor but not worth making it worse before the Cowboy Open next week, he would of brought home Northern’s seventh championship. At 165 Northern had two finalists with Dale Seley reversing the role from the Maroon and Gold Intrasquad winning 7-4 over Aaron Jensen. These two will be having some great bouts. At 197 Northern took 1^st, 3^rd and 4^th place. No team points were kept.
