MSU-Northern Wrestling
Update
11/02/04
Twelve wrestlers went to the Dino Classic in Alberta, Canada on Saturday, October 30th
(my birthday, I turned 29). I will not get into details about the new
scoring, F.I.L.A. has new rules and the officiating was a circus. David
Waters competed at 84 Kg (184.8 lbs.) and took 1st, in the semi-finals he defeated the Calgary wrestler whom pinned him in the
dual meet here on October 22nd. Ryan Mattingly at 78 Kg
(171.6 lbs) took 3rd place and lost to the Korean in the
semi-finals, whom Emmett said was the real deal and
won the weight class. We had three 6th places and one 5th
place. There were teams from Cuba, Korea, of course Canada and Montana Northern represented
the U.S.
Also on
October 30th (my birthday) was the prestigious Sunkist Open held in Phoenix, Arizona. Former MSU-Northern National
Champion Glenn Garrison was competing and placed 2nd in the Greco
Roman Division at 145 lbs. His final match had a couple of controversial
calls that should have gone Glenn’s way, reported by ex-Northern Wrestler and
All-American Nate Laslovich who went down to watch.
This week
Northern competes in two duals on Friday, November 5th at 5 pm and 7 pm in Cody, WY, then onto Powell, WY for the Northwest Open on Saturday,
starting at 9 am.
