MSU-Northern wrestling coach David Ray has added a pair of Washington recruits for the upcoming season.

Zachary Morgan of Selah, WA, and Ryan Mattingly of Vashon, WA, have both signed NAIA national letters of intent to wrestle for the Lights next season.

Morgan is projected to compete in the 125-pound weight class and is a three-time state placer including a state title.  During his high school career, Morgan compiled a 137-14 record.  He was also named by Wrestling USA as one of the country’s best sophomores in 2002 and best juniors in 2003.

“Zachary has been out of high school for one year,” Ray said.  “He will be a little more mature and realize how important wrestling really means to him.  He is a solid wrestler on his feet and on top.  He gives us added depth and could grow into a 133-pounder.”

Mattingly is coming to Northern from Douglas Community College in British Columbia.  During his high school career, Mattingly captured a state title in his senior year and finished eighth as a junior.  He is expected to wrestle at 184 or possibly 174 for the Lights.

“Ryan is a hard worker with high expectations,” Ray said.  “He is willing to put the time and effort into achieving his goals.”
