David Ray’s Weekly Report
Northern competed in the NAIA National Duals in Cleveland, OH at Cleveland
State University last Sunday, January 18th coming home with three wins over the
#2, #3 and #4 NAIA ranked teams. It was
a big weekend and very positive seven of the ten wrestlers came home with
undefeated weekends. Out of the 30
matches wrestled Northern lost only seven matches. It is hard to say in a few words how significant the wins were
without going through describing each match in detail and the momentum that
match gave in each dual. We beat many
individuals that were ranked in the top four nationally, the confidence will
help greatly going into regionals and nationals this coming February.
Northern stands 13-0 in duals this
year but will face its stiffest challenge this Saturday, January 24th against
NCAA Division I Boise State University. Boise State is ranked in the NCAA top
25 (21st) and has won the PAC 10 twice in the last five years and finished
second in 2003. This is the dual that
will keep us focused "win or lose" for now and the rest of the
season.
