Good News: MSU-Northern recorded its first MIDLANDS CHAMPION.  This is the largest collegiate tournament in the Nation and toughest considering unattached athletes training for the Olympics can enter and compete.  Emmett defeated his five opponents by scores of 8-3, fall 5:48, 12-5, 6-1 and finals 9-6.  So far Emmett has defeated the #2, #4, #5, #7, #9, #14, #19 NCAA Division I ranked wrestlers.  Caleb Schaeffer won 3 and loss 2 losing to Sanchez 11-8.  Sanchez placed 4th in Midlands and 3rd in Vegas.  Stryder Davis went 2-2, Chris Smith 2-2, Anthony Haukenberry 1-2, Jesse Juarez 0-2 and Emory Willson-unattached 0-2.  The Northern Team placed 15th with five point getters out of 62 teams and clubs represented.  There were many D-I teams that had 10 individuals scoring points that were below Northern in team standings.  It was Northern's second highest finish in the Midlands, the highest in 2001 at 12th place. 

 

The team traveled to Blair, NE and competed against Dana College on January 2nd winning 37-12 and below are the Dana Open placers on Saturday, January 3rd.  The individuals traveling to the Midlands in Chicago had a total of 3200 miles on the road in 10 days.  Northern is 9-0 in duals and travels to the Dickinson State U. Wrestling Classic this weekend January 10th, the NCAA D-III #1 ranked team will be present Augsburg College as well as the #5 ranked NAIA team Menlo College.  Our next dual is January 15th against the #1 NJCAA Junior College Team Northwest College in Powell, WY. On January 17th Northern travels (by air) to Cleveland State U. in Cleveland, Ohio to wrestle three of the top five NAIA teams on January 18th.  An exciting two weeks is coming up.

Emmett was voted the tournaments OW "outstanding wrestler"
