Skylights' season didn't follow the usual script
In sports, like in life, things don't always work out like anyone
hopes or expects. That was the 2005-06 Montana State
University-Northern women's basketball team's season in a nutshell.
The Skylights' season didn't end how any of them wanted it to.
Northern let a late seven-point lead against The Master's College
slip away in the second round of the NAIA national tournament in
Jackson, Tenn., Friday afternoon, ending the Skylights' magical and
tumultuous season.

There is a saying that goes something like: All good things must
come to an end.
On Friday afternoon, in Jackson, Tenn., those words rang true for

Streaking Skylights set to play in Sweet 16 today
Over the last two months, the Montana State University-Northern
women's basketball team has been a giant killer, knocking off
several nationally ranked teams.
The Skylights did it three times in the regular season, and, on
Wednesday, in the opening round of the 2006 NAIA national tournament
in Jackson, Tenn., they did it again when they beat No. 13 Oklahoma
Christian University, 82-68.

It's been a long road to Tennessee for MSU-N
On Wednesday afternoon, the Montana State University-Northern
Skylights will play in the NAIA women's national tournament for the
first time in five years. The Skylight program is one rich in
tradition, and over the years expectations by the school, its fans
and the community of Havre have been very high. But after what
happened to this Skylight team at the beginning of the 2005-06
season, no one could have expected or anticipated just how far the
Skylights would come.

A new meaning to the phrase ‘learning on the job'
Montana State University-Northern head women's basketball
coach Chris Mouat is like every other basketball coach in America.
He has a distinct passion for the game, and he loves to teach it. He
is competitive and driven and he instills those qualities in his
players. And on top of all that, he genuinely cares about his
student-athletes. However, Mouat's rookie season at the helm of one
of the Frontier Conference's most historic women's program's has
been anything but normal.

Skylights come up short against Western; NAIA tourney next?
BUTTE - All season long, the Montana State University-Northern
Skylights have played shorthanded. Their starters have played a ton
of minutes, and no matter how well-conditioned and resilient they
are, the Skylights have had an excuse to be a tired basketball team.
On Friday night in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference women's
basketball tournament in Butte, Northern clearly looked tired in its
heartbreaking 74-71 loss to the UM-Western Bulldogs.

The talk surrounding the Montana State University-Northern women's

NAIA regular season poll has been left out of the 32-team field. But
the only way the Skylights and first-year head coach Chris Mouat can
punch a guaranteed ticket to Jackson, Tenn., is by winning the 2006
