Light's Basketball sign junior college transfer
Six-foot-eight sophomore forward, Clinton Shelton of San Diego, CA has signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Lights next season. He competed at Cuyamaca Community College and helped his team to a 12-4 finish in the Pacific Coast Conference, a trip to the California State Tournament, and a 19-12 overall record. He is an outstanding shot-blocker (at 3.1 per game), led his team in rebounds (at 7.9 per game) and averaged 9.5 points per game. In the Regional-qualifying game, Clinton recorded a triple-double scoring 10 points, getting 10 blocks and gathering 10 rebounds in an important win for the Coyotes.
While at Cuyamaca Clinton set several records and was named 2nd Team All-Pacific Coast Conference. He holds the record for the most blocks in a single game (2006-07) – 10 vs. Imperial Valley, (2005-06) – 9 vs. Grossmont College. He also holds the record for most blocks in a season – 94 (3.0 per game) and for a career – 143 (2.3 per game).
“We are very excited to have Clinton coming our way next season. He brings immediate help defensively, on the glass, and finishing around the basket. He has the ability to contest every shot in the paint and will hustle for loose balls and rebounds. He runs the floor extremely well and is not afraid to work hard on every possession. He appears to be a team-first guy who will make a fine addition to what we look for in our program. What I really like about him is he likes to do the little things that make your offense and defense gel. He is very good at being active off the ball at both ends. I witnessed several plays on tape where he sets great screens at one end, does a great job of helping on the weak side at the other, and then follows it up by chasing down the loose ball.” – Coach Huse.
