Alex Capdeville, the longest serving CFO in the Montana University system, has retired as Chancellor of Montana State University Northern. Capdeville has served as MSU-Northern's Chancellor since 2000, transferring from the Helena College of Technology, where he served for 22 years as the CEO.
MSU officials announced that Capdeville will move to the MSU-Bozeman campus on a post retirement contract, helping MSU in Bozeman expand the role of the two year education in that community. He will also hold a faculty appointment with the MSU College of Education, Health and Human Development.

Capdeville commented that, "I am honored that I have had the opportunity to serve as Chancellor for the past seven years. During my tenure as Chancellor at Northern we successfully achieved regional and professional accreditations. We have sought to meet the needs of workforce by developing several new apprenticeship programs in plumbing, electrical and construction areas. Northern will always be a special place to my wife, Suzy and 1, for we are both alumni of NMC. We are very grateful to the fine people of Havre for the support they have given us and the college. We will miss all of our Havre friends."
Capdeville is credited with building the physical campus and intellectual offerings on the MSU-Northern campus. "Alex has made significant contributions to the Northern campus", said Lynn Hamilton, chairwoman of the Montana Board of Regents. "Under his watch, the new Applied Technology Center was constructed."
Dr. Sheila M. Stearns, Commissioner of Higher Education, commented: "It is with regret that we learn of Chancellor Capdeville's decision to retire. He has been a friend and public servant in Montana for a long time, and one whose work has brought opportunity and bright futures to Montana students. Fortunately in a post retirement role, he will continue to bring his expertise to important educational issues in Montana. I wish him all the best."
Capdeville stated "I also want to extend my gratitude to the faculty and staff at Northern who have built a college that will meet the needs of the Hi-Line and Montana for many years to come."
