New Hires at MSU-Northern
Winter 2006 This year Northern has gained some new and outstanding people on our staff and faculty here is a brief introduction to these individuals. Mark Allen earned his Master's of Education and Leadership Degree from Brigham Young University and his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Utah Valley State College. He has been hired as Director of Education Field and Clinical Experiences. For the past year Allen has been the Director of Academic Services at the DaVinci Academy of Science and the Arts in Ogden, Utah. He also spent eight years as a member of the Utah Army National Guard. Northern's new Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for this fall is Anna Bateman. Bateman is a graduate of MSUN with a degree in Computer Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technology. She has worked as an Information Technology Specialist in Idaho for the past year. Dave Gantt is Northern's new Athletic Director. He was the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations at Montana State University Bowman and will replace Byron Ophus who stepped down from his Athletic Director position in order to return to the classroom. Gantt is no stranger to MSU-Northern as he was the Head Volleyball Coach and Physical Education Instructor for Northern in 1988-89, in 1988 was named Frontier Conference Coach of the Year. He left Northern to be the Assistant Volleyball Coach for the USA Men's National Team. During that time he helped coach the 1991 Pan Am Games in Havana Cuba, the 1991 World League the 1990 World Championships in Rio De Janiero and the 1990 Good Will Games. Gantt holds a master's degree in Physical Education from MSU and Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration and Physical Education from the University of Great Falls Judy Hembd begins this fall as Assistant Professor of Nursing at Northern. She is a graduate of MSUN's nursing program and is has just earned her Master of Science in Nursing through the University of Alabama. For the last four years Hembd has been a Clinical Resource nurse for MSUN and for the past three years has been a nursing tutor for Northern students. Maureen Henehan, a graduate of St. Xavier University in Illinois, has been hired as Assistant Professor of Nursing. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago. Henehan will be associated with the nursing program in Lewistown. Henehan has worked as a staff nurse in the operating room and intensive care units at several hospitals in Chicago. MSUN's Nursing Program adds Margaret Hennessey as Instructor of Nursing. Hennessey earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington. She spent two years at Providence Centralia Hospital in Washington as Clinical Educator for the medical/surgical units, where she was responsible for the ongoing education of nurses. She also spent time teaching at Centralia Community College and Lower Columbia Community College. The Civil Engineering Department welcomes Michael Miller as a new Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering Technology. Miller earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and his Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences from Bernidji State University in Minnesota. He then continued on to earn his Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and is presently working on his doctorate. He comes to Northern from Central Lakes College, where he Taught engineering physics. and mathematics courses. Chris Mouat, new Head Women's Basketball Coach, comes to Northern from Rocky Mountain College in Billings where he was the Head Junior Varsity Women's Basketball Coach and Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Montana. Steve Neiffer has been selected to fill the position of Instructor of Automotive Technology. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology from MSUN. Neiffer is the owner of Bergren Transmission in Havre, which he has run for nearly twenty years. He has taught automotive courses at Northern in the past and brings with him much experience. Bethany Pulver, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Family Science from MSU-Bozeman, has been selected to fill the position of Admissions Specialist at Northern. Pulver has resided in Havre for the past year and held a position at Wells Fargo Bank. While in Bozeman, she was Assistant Resident Director of the Department of Residence Life on campus. New Associate Professor of Education Karen Reynolds brings to Northern over seventeen years of teaching/researching experience. She has spent much time teaching in a variety of large and small rural towns in northern Alberta, British Columbia, and Northwest Territories, Canada. She earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and continued on to earn her Master of Education and Doctor of Philosphy degrees. Jeremy Siemens, new Instructor of Civil Engineering Technology, earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology from MSU-Bozeman. Siemens is currently the Vice President of the Milk River Engineering, Inc., and spent one year as a Civil Engineering Adjunct Professor at Northern and one semester as a teaching assistant at MSU-Bozeman. Penny Taylor, new Instructor of Nursing, comes to Northern with eighteen years of experience in the Medical/Surgical field at Benefis Health Care in Great Falls. She spent the past year as a Clinical Resource Nurse for Montana State University. Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mary College in North Dakota. Dan Troupe replaces David Ray as Northern's head wrestling coach. Troup comes to Northern with an impressive wrestling record. He is a Two time national Freestyle/Greco Roman champion (undefeated); USA Wrestling World Team member and individual place winner; Montana High School State Champion; two time NCAA Division I All American; Iowa State Wrestling Varsity Team Captain; five time Olympic Festival champion; two time U.S. National Team touring member; and threetime Olympic Trials place winner. Troupe has his Bachelor of Arts degree, in Broadfield History and Social Science from Western Montana College. James Underwood comes to Northern frorn Washington to fill a position as a one year temporary Assistant Professor of History. Prior to coming to Northern, Underwood taught history and social science courses at Blue Mountain Community College in Oregon and Walla Walla Community College in Washington. He has his doctorate in history from the University of North Dakota, a master's degree in history and Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Valdosta State College he also has a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and History from West Georgia College. Arlys Williams has been selected as Assistant Professor of Nursing. Williams earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Valparaiso University in Indiana and just completed her Master of Science in Nursing through the University of Colorado. She will begin to earn her Ph.D. in Nursing this month. Williams comes to Northern from the Northern Montana Medical Group, where she is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. |
