The Tradition Continues
Winter 2002

The Skylights Basketball team is on their way to another memorable season. Starting the season with a 15-2 record and excitingly knocking off an always-tough Lewis-Clark College in front of a roaring MSU-Northern gymnasium, the Skylights had a rough three-game losing streakSkylight in Action to conference foes, University of Great Falls, Montana Tech, and nationally ranked Western Montana. The Skylights program has not seen such a thing since the early 1980's, but these women have stayed together through the ups and downs, have made a commitment to the game and to each other, and are now back on the winning track again.

The Skylights latest victims were Carroll College (89-71,) and Rocky Mountain College (74-50.) The Skylights are sitting third in the conference with a 17-5 overall, and 4-3 in the conference. Paula Owens leads all scorers with an 18.2 average, a 55.2% field goal percentage and 172 rebounds. Sophomore, Billings native, Jenny Balgua leads the Skylights in 3 point scoring, making 21 out of 39 attempts, for 53.8% long range shooting.

As the Skylights get ready for the Frontier Conference tournament in Butte on February 28th, March 1st, and March 2nd, the Skylights have the confidence knowing they are outscoring their opponents by an average of 13.3 points and out rebounding them by and average of 7.4 rebounds. The Skylights as a team are shooting 42.5%. 45.9% of their 2-point shots are going through the rim and 33.7% of their long bombs are hitting their mark. The Skylights are also outshooting their opponents on the charity line by making 71.2% of their shots, holding their opponents to 66.7%.
