Donaldson Hall is a major historical landmark for Northern but it has a failing heating system that is very inefficient and costly to run. We have no plans to tear down this beautiful building but we do need to make plans for how we can work around this old heating system while we keep the commons available for meetings until we can afford to replace it or renovate this facility. We have made the decision to relocate the eight people who have their offices in this facility this summer.
We are looking into several ways of heating just the entryway and the commons areas. The idea would be to keep those areas at about 50 degrees and turn the heat up when we need to use the commons. It is our desire to be able to retain some limited use of that facility.
CTA in Billings has given us some preliminary drawings on renovating Donaldson Hall into a state of the art of the art residence hall with private bathrooms, and several penthouse suites in the attic. The renovations are estimated to cost 5 million dollars. We do not have the money nor do we have the ability to borrow that much money to renovate this facility at this time.
