Letter to Northern Alumni
Summer 2005

Dear alums and friends:

We are nearing the end of our celebration of MSU-Northern's 75 Anniversary. Everyone here at Northern extends our thanks to those of you who made it possible for us to do some special events and recognitions throughout the year. We learned a lot about the institution's history and it was, indeed, a "Remarkable Journey" that began with, and continue through, dedicated and loyal people like you. The 75th Anniversary website is still there for you to visit at www.msun.edu/75th. It was designed and maintained by Marianne Hoppe with our ITS department. Thank you Marianne, for the outstanding job.

Some of you may know that we lost on of the truly special people who guided Northern during the key years after Dr. Vande Bogart. Dr. J.R. Crowley passed away on May 11, 2005 at the age of 91. There is an article on a few of his contributions and his life here at Northern in the issue. Many of the students who Crowley attended Northern from 1963-1975 remember him with great respect and admiration. We will remember Dr. Crowley and the other great leaders who have made this institution what it is today.

In this issue the Fall Schedule of Events are listed with the Homecoming, All-Sports Hall of Fame, Alumni Games, and Scholarship Auction dates set. Please pencil in some of these events in your calendar and join us as we continue to celebrate the excellence and opportunity that Northern continues to provide students.

The Northern Alumni Association will be offering two new benefits to alumni and Northern Family members. Soon to appear on our website will be a University Travel Benefits program that offers alumni opportunities to book accommodations for a reasonable rate in resort areas all over the United States. Also, being offered for the first time will be insurance benefits through Liberty Mutual. The links to these opportunities will be added to the alumni page of the www.msun.edu website very soon. We are also producing the third edition of our alumni directory through B.C.Harris Publishing Company. You will be receiving your written survey from them in the mail. They will also be calling you to update your information if they don't receive your survey.

We would like to start carrying photos in our Family Album, so if you have some news or an update with or without a picture, please send it to the Northern Alumni Association Office at P.O. Box 7751, Havre, MT, 59501, or e-mail to bricker@msun.edu.

Again, a big thank you goes out to your Association Board Directors. They are a hard-working, committed group. Without their guidance, planning and hard work, combined with your financial support, Northern's voice would be much smaller. Thank you for your loyalty and support of our efforts on behalf of MSU-Northern and her students.
