Northern Alumni Association Announces
2004-05 Scholarship Awards

Summer 2004

The Northern Alumni Association awarded fourteen scholarships to students of Montana State University Northern at the annual awards ceremony on Thursday, April 8, 2004 in the Student Union Building.

Each year, the Association awards two Keith Clawson Incoming Freshman Scholarships to sons or daughters of former Northern Alums. Travis Cline of Big Sandy, Montana, and Christopher Blanchard of Great Falls, Montana were awarded the scholarships for 2004 05.

Travis ClineTravis Cline, son of Carrie (Ruff)'77 and Dale Cline, an honor roll student at Big Sandy High School was a four year member of FFA (Future Farmers of America). He worked on fundraisers to raise money for club travel and served as the reporter his senior year. He participated on the high school wrestling team as a freshman. Cline is a member of the Lutheran church in Big Sandy and is known for his work ethic and positive attitude. He has three part time jobs, working on the family farm, at a local service station, and for his mother's business, Carne's Flowers and Gifts. He will be majoring in Diesel Technology when classes begin this fall at Northern.

Christopher Blanchard, son of Larry '75 and Carla (Pilgeram) Blanchard `78, will major in Christopher BlanchardAutomotive or Diesel Technology. He also has interests in Design and Agriculture. Blanchard has been an active 4 H member for ten years and has served as club president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer. He is involved in competitive shooting and competes in Air Rifle and Smallbore. Blanchard has qualified for the Junior Olympic National Competition four times, holds a national record, and has been a two time member of the President's 100 club. He has also been chosen as a member of the Team Montana Air Rifle Team that competed at the National NRA Air Rifle Match in Wilmington, North Carolina. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Knights of Columbus.

This year's recipient for the Keith Clawson Memorial Continuing Student Scholarship is Nick Johnson, of Havre, Montana. Johnson is majoring in Automotive and Diesel Technology. Anna Strommen of Hinsdale, Montana is a Broadfield Social Science and English major and was awarded the Keith Clawson Memorial NonTraditional Student Scholarship.

Annette Fjeldheim, a nursing student from Grass Range, Montana, was awarded the Keith Clawson Memorial Single Parent Scholarship. The Class of 1941 Endowed Scholarship recipient is Allison Skalsky of Helena, Montana. She is majoring in Design Drafting Technology. The Northern Alumni Association Fine Arts Scholarship was awarded to Athena Fox of Havre, Montana.

The Northern Alumni Association awards a $750.00 scholarship to each athletic program. The Rodeo Scholarship is being awarded to Emily and Jenna Bell of Box Elder, Montana and Ashley Buck of Chinook, Montana. The volleyball program has given an award to Katie Engstrom, of Chester, Montana. Men's and women's basketball, wrestling, football and golf are still recruiting and have not awarded their alumni scholarships at this time.
