Northern Announces 10 Student Excellence Awards Winners

Summer 2004
Ten Montana State University-Northern students were recently named
student excellence award winners for the 2003-2004 school year. In
order to qualify for a student excellence award, several criteria must
be met. Students must be of junior standing, have a 2.75 cumulative grade
point average, and have demonstrated a commitment to educational goals
through academic achievement and extracurricular participation. The student
excellence award is the highest honor a student at Northern can receive.

Amy Boehm
Amy Boehm, of Havre, plans to graduate in May 2004 with a Bachelor
and Associates degree in Business Technology with minors in
Accounting, Small Business Management, and Marketing: Technical Sales
and Services. She is the daughter of Karl and Jean Boehm of Missoula
and has four children of her own. Upon graduation, she hopes to gain
experience in a broad field, and eventually start her own business.
She is the Chief Administrative Officer for Students In Free Enterprise
(SIFE). |

Catina Hinkle
Catina Hinkle, of Havre, will graduate in May 2004 with a Bachelors
degree in Civil Engineering Technology (CET) and an Associates
degree in Design Drafting. She is the daughter of Dennis and Linda
Hinkle. Upon completion of school, she will move to Missoula to work
as a field engineer for Montana Department of Transportation, eventually,
she hopes to move into a design position. Catina has served as president
and treasurer of the CET Club and as treasurer of the Drafting Club. |

April Keith
April Keith, of Great Falls, will graduate in December 2004 with her
Bachelors degree in Business Technology and a minor in Small
Business Management. April is the daughter of David and Teri Keith
and Louise Keith. When she graduates, she hopes to obtain a position
with the corporate office of Party Universe, a company she currently
works for. Eventually, she would like to pursue a Masters degree
and own her own business. April Keith has served as the president
and vice president of MSU-College of Technologys Student Association.
She has received several scholarships, including the Soroptomist Scholarship,
the Access Grant, and the Heisey Award. She is currently the Youth
Activities Director for Central Assembly of God in Great Falls. |

Tiffany Laisnez
Tiffany Laisnez, of Dutton, will graduate in May 2004 with a Bachelors
degree in Business Technology and a minor in Small Business Management.
She is the daughter of Pat and Cherie Laisnez. Upon graduation, Tiffany
would like to enter the workforce and then continue her education,
pursuing a teaching degree. Eventually, she would like to own a catering
business or small café. While attending college, Tiffany has
been secretary for the MSUN House Counsel and president of the Spirit
Band. |

Warren Quick
Warren Quick, of Havre, will graduate in May 2004 with a degree
in Health Promotion and a minor in Business Technology. He is married
to Jami Quick. Warren would like to pursue his Masters degree
and continue coaching. He is currently the assistant coach for womens
basketball and the head coach for the golf team. He has also organized
and run the Youth Skylights Basketball Camp.

Carley Robertson, MD
Carley Robertson, of Havre, will graduate in May 2005 with a Bachelors
degree in Diesel Technology. She is the daughter of John and Betty
Robertson of Butte. In addition to pursuing her diesel degree, Carley
works in area medical facilities, such as Fort Belknap Indian Health
Services, Rocky Boys Clinic, and Northern Montana Hospitals
Emergency Room. Carley would like to learn the about power generation
to help places in the world that need clean water and a basic sewage
system. Currently, Carley teaches a technical writing class at Northern
and EMT Continuing Education to the Rocky Boys ambulance crew.
She is working as a facilitator for the Environmental Health Subcommittee
of the Consortium with Hill Countys Public Health Department,
she is a board member of the HELP Committee and Boys and Girls Club
and Chair of the Board of Directors for Hi-Line Therapeutic Riding
Association. She is also a member of Northerns Diesel Technology
Club.

Chris Rossmiller
Chris Rossmiller, of Fort Benton, will graduate in May 2005 with Bachelors
degrees in Design Drafting and Civil Engineering Technology. He is
the son of Don and Carol Rossmiller. In the future, Chris would like
to work in an architectural firm and then go back to school to get
his Masters degree in Architecture. During his college tenure,
Chris has served as president of the American Design Drafting Association
(ADDA), secretary of Civil Engineering Club (CET), Sergeant of Arms
for VICA and as a resident assistant. |

Caleb Schaeffer
Caleb Schaeffer, of Columbia Falls, will graduate in May 2004 with
a degree in Physical Education. He is the son of Rick and Vickie Schaeffer.
Upon graduation, Caleb hopes to obtain a teaching position and as
a wrestling coach. Caleb wrestling career has been very successful.
He is a three-time national placer and a two-time Academic All-American.
He is also a member of the National Education Association. |

Jennifer Vaughn
Jennifer Vaughn, of Havre, will graduate in May 2005 with Bachelors
degrees in Secondary Education: Science and Biology. She is the
daughter of Paula and Chuck Vaughn. Jennifer would like to teach
in a Montana school. Jennifer serves as secretary of the Science
Club and public relations chair of the Student Education Association.
She also volunteers as a 4-H leader and a chaperone for the Havre
High School Science Bowl Team.

Emmett Willson
Emmett Willson, of Shepherd, will graduate in December 2004 with
a degree in Secondary Education: Social Sciences Broadfield. He
is the son of Larry and Bea Willson. Eventually, Emmett would like
to own a business and buy a ranch. He also wants to coach wrestling.
Emmett Willson competes on the Northern wrestling team and has had
a successful wrestling career. He is a two-time national wrestling
champion, a five-time outstanding wrestler, a Midlands Champion,
and a Vegas Champion. (see related article)
