Alumni Association Awards Scholarships
Summer 2002

The Northern Alumni Association awarded fourteen scholarships on Friday, April 17th, 2002, during MSU-Northem's annual awards and scholarship convocation.

Each year, two $750 scholarships are awarded by the Northern Alumni Association in memory of, Keith Clawson, a former administrator, business department instructor, and student sponsor.

High School, have been selected to receive the Northern Alumni Association Keith Clawson Memorial Scholarships for incoming freshmen.
 
Logan E. Terry A four-year honor student, Terry is active in the leadership of the local chapter of Future Farmer's of America (FFA) and currently serves as their Parliamentarian. He participated in many school activities including choir, drama, basketball, baseball, and student government, serving as the student council secretary. He is active in his church group and in the community, working with local producers. Logan Terry plans to be a third generation alumnus of the MSU-Northern education program and teach Biology. He is the son of Valerie (Morgan) White, '87 and '96.
 
John W. Pankratz, of Opheim, Montana, is a member of the National Honor Society and is active in 4-H, earning numerous awards. In school, he participates in choir, track, school play, and the student council, currently serving as their secre
tary. He was also vice-president of the Technology Student Association. John earned Academic All-State Basketball honors for two years and as a senior was cocaptain of the varsity basketball team. He currently serves as the Yearbook Editor, Senior Class Vice-President, and National Honor Society Treasurer and is listed in Who's Who Among American High Schools for the last three years. John will be majoring in Automotive Technology. He is the son of Grace (Clausen) Pankratz.

Scholarship awards were presented. The Non-Traditional Student Scholarship was awarded to Nancy Hjartarson of Cut Bank, Montana. Nancy is seeking her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Debbie L. Smith, business major from Havre, Montana, received the Class of '41 Endowed Scholarship. The Continuing Student Scholarship was awarded to Kyle J. Burgmaier, a Diesel Technology major from Power, Montana. Anita Kay Howard of Shelby, Montana, received the Single Parent Scholarship. She is majoring in nursing. The Fine Arts Scholarship was presented to Jenny Lynn Gerky of Havre, Montana. Jenny is a Community Service major.

The Association athletic scholarships were awarded to Jenny Balgua, Billings, women's basketball; Toni Bickford, Great Falls, golf; Doug Kallenberger, Havre, rodeo; and Dustyn Azure, Wolf Point, wrestling. The football scholarship went to Larry Klingaman, Chinook, and an incoming recruit yet to be named. The volleyball and men's basketball scholarships will be announced at a later date. The deadline for all alumni scholarships is set for March 1 st of each year.
