The Northern Alumni Association awarded scholarships to sixteen Montana State University Northern students on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 during MSU-Northern's annual awards and scholarship convocation.

Each year the Association awards two Keith Clawson Incoming Freshman Scholarships to sons or daughters of Northern alumni. This year the scholarships were awarded to Kimberly Ann Linn of Saco, Montana, and Kimberly Amelia Byrne of Sunburst, Montana.

Kimberly LinnKimberly Ann Linn, a 2003 graduate of Saco Public High School, is the daughter of alumnae Terri (Worstell) ' 82 and Donni Linn of Saco. Kimberly was the Senior Class President and the Vice President and Representative of the National Honor Society as well as an officer in STAND (Students Taking a New Direction). The team captain in basketball, she earned varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, track, and band. Being an active participant in sports and accepting the challenge of taking Advanced Placement courses and Cisco Networking classes paid off as she was awarded an Academic All-State Selection for academic achievement and sports participation. Kimberly was also an officer in 4-H, serving as the President and Vice President and is an active member of her church. She plans to attend MSU-Northern in the fall of 2003 and pursue a degree in graphic design developing her interest her interest in photography and talent in art.

Kimberly Byrne, is a 2003 graduate of North Toole County High SchoolKimberly Byrne
and will be majoring in the nursing program at Northern. Kimberly's school activities include serving as the secretary/treasurer of the National Honor Society, Senior Class President, Student Council, Pep Club and the Science Olympiad Team. She also earned silver and gold medals at the State Leadership Conference in 2001 and 2002 while participating on the parliamentary Procedure Team. She received the Outstanding Journalism Award and was the Outstanding Junior Science Student in 2002, earning a purple ribbon at the Regional Science Fair. Her Americanism essay took first place in 2001 and 2002 and a third place at state in 2001. Her community service includes Girl Scouts, 4-H, a VFW Auxiliary membership and Chairman of the Adopt-A-Highway program. She also co-chaired Red Ribbon Week activities at the elementary and high schools. Kimberly will be enrolled at MSU-Northern in the Nursing Program. She is the daughter of Nona Byrne '79 of Sunburst, Montana.

Amy E. Boehm, a graduate of Sentinel High School in Missoula, Montana is this years recipient of the Keith Clawson Memorial Single Parent Scholarship. She is a business technology major at Northern and the mother of four children. The Keith Clawson Memorial Non-Traditional Scholarship was awarded to Sam Tudor of Cascade, Montana. He is studying for a bachelor's degree in English Education. Kyle Burgmaier, of Power, Montana was awarded this year's Keith Clawson Memorial Continuing Student Scholarship. Kyle is majoring in diesel technology and plans on farming and ranching as his career. The Class of 1941 Scholarship has been awarded to Jamie Bawden, a graduate of Fergus High School in Lewistown, Montana. She is majoring in English Education. The Northern Alumni Fine Arts scholarship was presented to Tiffany Laisnez, a business technology major from Dutton, Montana. The Northern Alumni Association athletic scholarships were awarded to Cody Gillespie of Great Falls who was awarded the men's basketball scholarship; Sally Henderson of Great Falls received the golf award; Doug Kallenberger of Havre, Ashley Buck of Chinook, and Jesse Simonson of Saco received the rodeo scholarship; Tanja Bruski of Billings received the volleyball award; and Ty Malia of Billings was awarded the wrestling scholarship. The women's basketball and men's football scholarships will be awarded at a later date.

The deadline for all alumni scholarships is set for March 1st of each year.
