Governor-elect Brian Schweitzer appointed Northern alum Tony Preite as the director of the state Department of Commerce. Preite has nearly 40 years of hands-on work in economic development in Montana, including 25 years with Bear Paw Development Corporation in Havre. Preite commented that he was "proud to have graduated from Northern and Havre will always be my hometown. It was a great experience growing up and going to school and college there." |

Over the years, whenever possible, he has assisted Northern in developing programs. The most recent project he worked with was the new Applied Technology Center that is currently under construction. He credited the success of those projects to the proactive leadership at Northern. He feels he was "fortunate to have grown up in such a great community and to have attended a great college." We wish him well with his new responsibilities in such an important job for Montana.
