Former
1948 NMC graduate, Elmer Main, an enrolled member of the Gros Ventre
Tribe on the Fort Belknap Reservation has retired from a life long career
in education. Main attended Gonzaga University in 1941, but his education
was interrupted by the attack on Pearl Harbor and he served the country
in the military. He then enrolled at NMC under the G.I. Bill of World
War II. Elmer enjoyed his two years at NMC and made many friends with
other WWII veterans. After graduating, he transferred to the University
of Montana in Missoula, where he received a BA in education and began
a teaching career in high schools along the Hi-Line. In 1958, he received
his master's degree in public school administration and served as the
superintendent in several public schools where he had taught throughout
his career. Elmer says, "I felt happy about teaching young students
to prepare for their future." Main also attended the University of
Oklahoma and the University of Colorado in 1968 1969 to compliment his
work at the University of Montana in adult education. |
