Dr.
Roger Barber, Provost of Montana State University Northern was
named Interim Deputy Commissioner of Academic and Student Affairs.
Dr. Barber relocated to Helena and started work on September 8th.
The interim term lasts until June 30, 2004.
Dr.
Barber had been serving as provost at MSU-Northern since 1999. During
his twenty three years at Northern, Dr. Barber held many positions
including Chief Operating Officer, Interim Vice Chancellor, chair
of the Department of Business, a professor of business and chair
of numerous committees.
Dr.
Barber holds three degrees from the University of Montana: a Juris
Doctorate in law, a masters in business and a Bachelor of Arts in
journalism. Some of Dr. Barber's

key
accomplishments include his leadership of a year long process which culminated
in a new Master Plan for Northern, his five years as accreditation liaison
officer, and supervision of degree program review efforts. Dr. Barber
also served as staff attorney and consultant to the Montana Constitutional
Convention, Department of Interior staff attorney for the Indian Civil
Rights Task Force, and water rights specialist for the Montana Department
of Natural Resources.
The Deputy
Commissioner of Academic and Student Affairs directly supervises a staff
of five and oversees all degree and non degree program offerings for the
Montana University System, manages campus accreditation, proficiency,
articulation and transfer issues, and directs several federal grant programs
including Title II and Gear Up.
